The Egyptians and the Babylonians were among the first to develop methods to measure time.

The Egyptians used sundials and water clocks to measure time. The Babylonians on the otherhand were known for their sexagesimal (base-60) system. This system had a big influence on our current 60-second minute and 60-minute hour.

When the mechanical clocks were invented in the 14th century, tracking time became significantly easier. The accuracy of time tracking became even more precise when Christiaan Huygens invented the pendulum clock in the 17th century.
